Board Biographies
Lani Faulkner - District 1
(Term of Office: December 2024 - December 2028)
Director Faulkner was appointed to the Board of Directors in November of 2024 (term beginning in December 2024). She has worked as a community college professor in biology, physiology and other subjects, as well as in the pharmaceutical industry. She has also worked with the Santa Cruz County Regional Transportation Commission and the Santa Cruz County Office of Response, Recovery and Resilience. Director Faulkner is the founder and director of Equity Transit, an advocacy group for public transit and affordable housing, and is a resident of Live Oak.
Jake Hess - District 2
(Term of Office: December 2024 - December 2028)
Director Hess was appointed to the Board of Directors in November of 2024 (term beginning in December 2024). He has lived in the District since 1983 and retired from CAL FIRE as the Assistant Region Chief of Northern California after serving for 29 years. He served as Fire Chief for Morgan Hill City Fire Department and South Santa Clara County Fire Protection District. He was the Agency Administrator of the 2020 SCU lightning Complex and the 2021 Caldor Fire and holds an Associate Degree in Fire Protection Technology from Cabrillo College.
Michael Hushaw - District 5
(Term of Office: December 2022 - December 2026)
Director Hushaw was elected to the Board of Directors in November of 2022, and previously served on the Aptos/La Selva FPD Board of Directors from 2020-2021 (prior to consolidation). He has over 30 years of Telecommunication (Fiber/Wireless/Structured), Business Operations, Healthcare Industry and Procedural Auditing experience. Mr. Hushaw and his family have resided in Aptos for decades.
Don Littlefield - District 3
(Term of Office: December 2024 - December 2028)
Director Littlefield was appointed to the Board of Directors in November of 2024 (term beginning in December 2024). He has nearly 30 years of experience in the tech industry, specializing in IT Management and Information Security. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science with a Minor in Business Administration from Chico State University. Don has resided in the Aptos Hills for the past 25 years with his family.
John Lucchesi - District 4
(Term of Office: December 2022 - December 2026)
Director Lucchesi was appointed to the Board of Directors in 2022, and had previously served on the Board of Directors for the Central Fire Protection District from 2016-2020 (prior to the consolidation with Aptos/La Selva FPD). He has been a resident of Central Fire Protection District since 1973. He previously had a career with numerous local fire agencies including Santa Clara County Fire Department, Soquel Fire District, UCSC Fire Department, and Santa Cruz City Fire Department. He holds an Associate’s degree from San Jose City College, State Chief Officer Certification, and a limited-scope teaching credential for the fire service.
