New Fire Chief, Assistant Chief at Central Fire District

Our new Fire Chief and Assistant Fire Chief have been selected beginning in May 2022, and with it a number of other promotions have occurred.

Central FD welcomes Jason Nee as our new Fire Chief! 

Fire Chief Jason Nee has been with Central Fire Protection District since 1999. He previously served the City of Watsonville as a Firefighter. During his time at Central Fire, Chief Nee has held the positions of Paid Call Firefighter, Firefighter/Paramedic, Captain, Battalion Chief and Assistant Fire Chief. His formal education includes an Associate Degree in Fire Protection Technology from Cabrillo College and a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies from UC Santa Barbara. He is also a California State Certified Fire Officer and Chief Officer. He began his role as our new Fire Chief on May 4th, following the retirement of Chief John Walbridge. 

Central FD welcomes Chad Akin into his role as our new  Assistant Fire Chief!

Chad Akin has been with the Central FPD since 1991 and continued on with the new consolidated Central Fire District in February of 2021. He previously served as a Battalion Chief with the Central Fire Protection District, overseeing Training & Safety for the District. 

Others also promoted this month are:

  • Pat Winters – re-assigned from Battalion Chief to Battalion Chief of Training, effective May 16, 2022.
  • Nigel Miller – promoted from Captain to Probationary Battalion Chief, effective May 19, 2022.
  • Rolf Lingens – promoted from Firefighter/Paramedic & Acting Captain to Fire Captain, effective May 23, 2022.

We have also hired two new members, Firefighter Julian Thompson and FF/PM Benjamin Shank, who will begin later in the month.
